Be Good For Goodness Sake

"The one who sent me is with me: He has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases Him" (John 8:29).

As young children, we wanted to please our parents. On some level, parents should want to please their children also, so there were often rewards for jobs well done. There a lot of scriptures about this mutual relationship which we can all easily find. In today's verse, Jesus tells us in a very straight forward manner, that He was all about pleasing His Father. Godliness is a trait that revolves around wanting to please God. The apostle Paul was very clear on this point; "Am I now trying to win the approval of men of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ" (Gal. 1:10). This was and still is a basic teaching of the New Testament. The apostles taught how to live in order to please God. This is godliness.

To Timothy, Paul wrote that "physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come" (1 Tim. 4: 8). The promise of the "life to come," is only for those who focus their life on wanting to please God.....Godliness....It is the only wealth and riches out there really worth striving for.

Lastly, there is the power that is only derived from our God. If we want that power for our daily living, godliness is a necessity. There is real power in godliness!!!! God doesn't leave us out on an island as castaways to fend for ourselves. "For it is God who works in you to will and act according to His good purpose" (Phil. 2:13). Through His power He strengthens our "inner being," so that we will be able to do more than we ever could have imagined. Godliness is necessary if we want to be a true disciple of Christ. It is of profit both in this life and the life to come. And finally, godliness is our wellspring of power. Power to go about doing good for all the right reasons...There's even more....

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
