Godliness - It Does A Body And Spirit Good
"Devote yourself to the public reading of scripture, to preaching and teaching....Watch your life and doctrine closely" (1 Tim. 4: 13, 16).

As the weather has made a turn for the better, I have gotten outside on the bicycle. I really enjoy feeling the wind at my face and the burn in my legs. Exercise is good for us. It gets the muscles active, the heart pumping and the blood flowing. Paul told Timothy that "physical training is of some value." But in the same sentence he finished with these words; "but godliness has value for all things" (V 8). Just as physical exercise is good for the body, for us to grow in godliness, we must exercise in the spiritual realm. In today's verses and the surrounding ones, Paul gives Timothy some good advice about spiritual exercise.

"Set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and purity" (V 12). It is a very serious matter in being able to set an example. In today's world we call it being a role model. Get a look at the stuff we are to be examples in...speech, life, love, faith and purity. These are the things we are to exercise in order to achieve godliness. But there's more. We are to devote ourselves to the reading of the Word. We may not all get a chance to "preach and teach" in the generally accepted mode. All of us however, can preach and teach up a storm with our actions. It is a wonderful way to exercise spiritually....To put our godliness into practice.

As we focus our efforts on these things, it will naturally allow us to make the very best of both our abilities and opportunities. We are to exercise in the spiritual arena, leaving materialism, empty disputes and arguing behind us. The more we work on the things we should, the more progress will be evident. After all, it is the desire to please God in word and action that we are striving to attain. We are now in the spiritual gym....We are here to do a "spiritual workout." One in which spiritual fitness is our goal..That spiritual state is called godliness....

Have a great day.... Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
