He Ain't Heavy

"A new command I give I give you. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13: 34 & 35).

These two verses by themselves would make a great morning devotional, wouldn't they...Herein lies the reason that Peter has us add to godliness, brotherly love. We cannot not lay claim to true kinship with God (godliness) without displaying it through the love of our brethren.(brotherly love) "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God. Whoever does no love, does not know God, because God Is love" (1 John 4:7 & 8). If we start at square one of Peter's list of virtues, they are designed that we might grow in the knowledge of our Lord. If this is our sincere desire, then the ability to show brotherly love is a most essential ingredient.

In many professions, wearing some kind of badge at work is necessary. It shows that we belong where we are. Jesus made brotherly love our ID. It is the clear and true mark that shows we are His disciples. "And he has given us this command: "Whoever loves God must also love his brother" (1 John 4:21) John goes as far to say in the previous verse that someone who says that they love God and does not love his brother is a liar. This makes such wonderful sense as we look at all of the hate in the world. People notice love!! They notice it especially when it crosses all ethnic, racial and socio-economic strata, that are often a barrier in the world.

We could not even begin to proclaim our Christianity to the world without this visible display of brotherly love. What would the appeal to those who do not know Jesus be if we are just like everyone else? Within the Body of Christ, the apostle Paul says this: "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love" (Eph. 4:2). When we are able to bear with one another in love, it will be witnessed by those around us. To proclaim that Jesus lives in me, is to show it with brotherly love....There is more.....

Have a great day...Let His light shine forth from you... Love mark Phil. 4:11
