99 and 44/100% Pure

"For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God " (1 Peter 1:23).

If you can remember my title today, you have been on the earth for a while..It was part of an advertisement slogan for Ivory Soap. It all started way back in the 1890s, when Harry Proctor (Proctor and Gamble) wanted an edge for making their soap seem "purer: than the others on the market. People like the idea of purity, especially when it came to the product they were using to wash themselves. Real brotherly love requires a purity of heart. The verse preceding today's says; "Now that you have been purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart" (V 22). Nobody likes a hypocrite. It is sheer hypocrisy to use flattering words that denote brotherly love, when they are nothing more than insincere and empty talk. Real brotherly love comes from a purified heart and emanates deeply from the soul. The imperishable seed makes brotherly love possible through a pure heart.

Before the days of "google" and other "search engines", when asked to research information, we went to the encyclopedia, dictionaries and other reference books. We needed to get to the source. The source of brotherly love is God. "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God and knows God" (1 John 4:7).....John goes even farther...."Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love" ( V 8). God showed His love for us by sending His Son to us. The Son showed His love for us through His sacrifice. Our faith in this enables us to grow in brotherly love. As we meditate on these great truths and really reflect on them, it is then and only then, that we can comprehend the meaning of brotherly love.

As we mature in the virtue of brotherly love, the more we will want to be "around' people. After all, this is a trait that is based on sharing. I will end with a children's song that goes something like this.....

"Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away.
Love is something if you give it away, you'll end up having more
Love is like a lucky penny, hold it tight and you won't have any,
Give it away and you'll have plenty, you'll end up having more...."

Have a wonderful day...A RAK would be great.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
