Honk If You Love _ _ _ _ _ !

"This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome" (1 John 5:3).

At the risk of breaking anyone's bubble, I am not a "bumper sticker" kind of guy. I don't condemn it, but it just is not for me...Love is all about wanting to be pleasing to God. Moreover, it is not what we think is pleasing to Him, but what the correct demonstration of our love for Him really is. Today's verse tells us one of the most important ways to show our love. Through obedience! The verse previous to today's says this; "This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out His commands" (V 2). Saying that I love God is a good thing. I know that Jane likes me to say, "I love you." Even having it on a bumper sticker is alright. I guess it's like signing a note or card with, "love, mark. Our marital love demands more than words, whether said or written however. It must be backed up by the true demonstration of those words. God demands more too! His word has been written for us and it says what we are to do in relationship to the agape love that we are to show.

"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him" ( 1 John 3:17)? This is one of God's commands. If we do not meet it, how are we really showing our love? The words of our Savior ring out through the corridors of time..."You have heard it said, 'love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" (Matt. 5:43-48). Slap me if I'm wrong, but I think that the "perfect" that Jesus is talking about here in our love! In order that we truly show our love for God, it must be reflected in how we treat others...ALL the others! When we really love our fellow man, we are in obedience to God...It is love in both word and deed...

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
