While We're Meditating

"If anything is excellent or worthy of praise----think about such things....meditate on these things...dwell on these things (Phil. 4: 8). (different translations)

As the apostle Paul was preaching in Athens, one of the cultural centers of the day, he was distressed to see that the city was filled with idols. He even found an alter with this inscription; "to an unknown God" (Acts 17: 23). With his foot in the door, he preceded to tell them about who this unknown God was. "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by hands" (V.24). If you have a little time today, read the rest of the chapter..It's very good..

For those of us who know God and understand His magnificence and magnitude, we dwell on Him a lot, don't we. Or do we? Do we ever just take the time to meditate on God? His evidences are all around us. A couple of weeks ago a small bird decided to make its nest on a light fixture by one of the front doors to our home. Since it is the door that we do not use, we did not disturb her. Pieces of grass appeared over the light and soon it began to take shape. The bird(s) is spending a lot of time on its little nest now, so I assume that eggs have been laid and the incubation process is taking place. The wonders of God's creation are all around us to see. Isn't He worth a bit of our time each day in meditation?

More than likely, we allow our minds to dwell on many things during a day. I hope they are a reflection of Philippians 4:8. God is all the things of this verse! He is indeed true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable. He is certainly excellent and worthy of praise. As Paul ends his thoughts here he says; "And the God of peace will be with you" (V. 9) As we all strive for more peace in our lives, the recipe is before us. The more time we spend in meditation of our God, the more peace will be in our lives. Our wonderful God is worthy of the praise and reflection. Through the prophet Jeremiah, God says this; "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the Lord' (9:23-24). Lets let our minds dwell on Him who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth....

Have a great day....A RAK or two would be splendid.... love mark Phil. 4:11
