Some Good News and Some Good News

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Rom. 1:16).

When someone comes up to us and asks; "Do you want to hear the good news first or the bad news?"....What is our response? Do we want the bad news up front or do we want to save it 'til last? For those of you who still read the newspaper, is it still filled with both good and bad news? Since I'm in a questioning mode here, do we want to walk around all day thinking about good things or bad? I have been writing about things that we should be meditating on for the past few days and this morning its good news. The gospel is the good news about Jesus and salvation. It would really be great for us to spend some time in meditation on the gospel. From the Greek, it actually means good news....

Today's verse tells us that the gospel is the power of God for salvation for those who believe it. The apostle Paul goes on to say; "For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed" (V 17). It would be a wonderful thing to spend some time out of our day in meditation on this great good news and it's power. As Jesus ascended into heaven, the last words that He spoke to His disciples were about "preaching the good news (gospel) to all creation" He even explained why! "Who ever believes and is baptized will be saved" (Mk 16: 15 & 16) The job of spreading the good news was not put into the hands of "professionals." It was put into ours...As we go about our day, we can preach the most eloquent of gospel sermons through our actions. Our kindness, gentleness, self-control, patience and virtue are unmistakable ways for us to spread His good news. This certainly makes the gospel something that is worthy of some of our time in meditation.

This good news of Jesus will become more and more important to us as we spend time in meditation upon it. Jesus and the apostles proclaimed it and that should be good enough for all of us to keep it in our hearts and on our minds. Everyone would rather hear the good news.....First and last...

Have a great day....Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
