Back To The Future

"We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thess. 1:3).

I enjoyed the "Back To The Future" movies. Although the concept is farfetched, we have all thought about what it would be like to either go back into our past or project ourselves into the future. What does the future hold for me ten years from now? Into this backdrop I would like to talk about hope today, and some good reasons why it is good meditating material. The dictionary defines the term as a belief in a positive outcome related to events in one's life. This is a good biblical definition too. We all desire that there will be good stuff in our future and hope is the expectation that the unseen will turn out well. Lets not confuse hope with a Santa's wish list. It appears from today's verses that hope is connected to love and faith. "And now these things remain; faith, hope and love" (1 Cor. 13:13).

All of our real Christian hopes ought to involve God! With faith, our hope turns into expectation. To the Christian, hope is the "helmet of our salvation" (Eph. 6:17) and the "anchor of the soul" (Heb. 6:19). It is the desire to pursue righteousness so that in our futures we will be more Christ-like. This is made possible only through the grace of God toward us. Our hope can become true expectation as we search through the Word that lights our paths and shows us the way. Our hope can become reality as we enmesh ourselves in the work of the Lord in our daily lives. Jesus wants us to do the feeding, clothing, visiting and comforting as a part of being like Him. One of our hopes ought to be that we will become better servants.

Finally, our hopes can only be realized as we are empowered by the Holy Spirit. It is this Holy Spirit that Peter promised would come upon us as he said; "Repent and be baptized, every one of you for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38). There is a wonderful hope that we have a believers. Tied to love and faith, it can be a real and attainable expectation as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a worthy part of our daily meditation....More tomorrow..

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
