Shown How To Love

"This Is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" (1 John 4:10).

Do you remember show and tell when you were in grade school. A child would bring something in from home and tell about all it to the teacher and their fellow students. I am sure that from time to time that it made for some very interesting byplay...Something shown along with the talking made for some good teaching moments..God has shown us how to love...As we all recite John 3:16 from memory we get it don't we? God loved us so much that he sent Jesus to us.."But when time had fully come, God sent his Son" (Gal. 4:4). God sent Jesus at exactly the right time. And then there's Jesus showing us how to love...."This is how we know what love is: Jesus laid down his life for us" ( 1 John 3:16). Jesus set the bar very high in showing his love for us. Sacrificial love!! We are not instructed to physically lay down our lives, but rather in our Christian service to give apart of it to each other.

John goes on further in explaining the depth to which our love should fathom. "Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth" (V 18). We just can't get by that old talk and walk thing can we! True love is always shown through deeds and truth. John does not stop here however. He says a little later; "This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. And his commands are not burdensome" (5:3). True love is exemplary....Real love is a demonstrative one....

Lastly, real love is long-lasting and takes a leap of faith in its assumptions...It assumes the best in others..I cannot say it any better than the apostle Paul. It is; "patient, kind, not envious, not boastful and not proud. It is not rude, self-seeking or easily angered. It keeps no records of wrongs, does not delight in evil but always rejoices in good. It always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres" (1 Cor 13: 4-7). Does our love measure up to these levels. If not, maybe we just don't reflect and meditate on it enough...

Have a great week...Why not start it out with a RAK!!! Love mark Phil. 4:11
