The Truth, the Whole Truth - You Know the Rest

"If you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free"

Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote these words that were put to music:

"Grant us thy truth to make us free,
And kindling thoughts that burn for Thee,
Till all thy living alters claim One holy
light, one heavenly flame."

Today's verse is probably one that we have quoted before, maybe even in a secular way...The remarkable aspect of it to me is the claim by Jesus that the truth can be known. It can be known if we hold fast to His teaching. Jesus told His disciples that He would send them the Holy Spirit for a specific purpose. "But when he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13). This tells me that Jesus wants us to know the truth, so the apostles we guided by the Holy Spirit that they could become it's wellspring.

Jesus taught about the "kingdom at hand," and wants all to repent.(Matt. 4:17) As he preached that wonderful lesson known to us as the Sermon On The Mount, he gave us the cornerstone on which to build. "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you" (Matt. 6:33). This is to be the priority in our lives, as he many time bore witness to it. Truth means reality, and Jesus always kept it real! There was sin to deal with and He did not tiptoe around it. Not wanting the world to enslave us in sin, He called for all to repent and receive the truth that can make us free....Free indeed! The truth of His teachings reveal how to live in holiness rather than sin....In righteousness rather than selfishness...

Finally, He taught about the reality of the Judgement. Again, in keeping it real, He taught us that the gate to Him was a narrow one and the gate to destruction was wide. Though the gate is narrow, the truth will enable us to enter through it. As Jesus rose from the dead, He qualified to be the righteous Judge, and we are to be judged by His words, the words of truth....We love America because in this country we have certain freedoms. The truth of Jesus liberates us from the world and sets us free to plot our course to Him...

Have a great day...Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
