Just Can't Get Enough Truth

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I---
I took the road less traveled by,
And it has made all the difference."

Robert Frost 1915

Truth is a path to be followed. Sorrowfully enough, for society today, it is a road less traveled. Though Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken" is usually viewed as an assertion of individualism, just suppose for a moment of literary license, we say that it's about the truth. The last two lines can then say to me that taking the road less traveled (truth) has made all the difference in my life. "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it" (Matt. 7: 13 & 14). It would seem that the road that leads to Jesus is the one less traveled by. Why? Doesn't the way to Jesus lead to the Father in heaven? "Not everyone who says 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" (V 21). Jesus tells us that we must not be mere sayers, but real doers. The apostle Paul told Timothy that there would come a time when men would not "put up with sound doctrine." "They will turn their ears away from the truth" (2 Tim. 4: 3 & 4).

The way to truth can be a lonely path, so one must walk in truth and love. John writes this: "To the chosen lady and her children whom I love in the truth----and not I only, but also all who know the truth----because of the truth that lives in us and will be with us forever" (1 John 1: 1& 2). Wouldn't it be wonderful if more and more people had the desire to walk down that road of truth? Paul wanted Timothy (and us) to be a "workman approved by God." He said that Timothy must "gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth" (2 Tim 2: 25). Through our example of love and service we can be that workman, always ready to give an answer to those who see the hope within us. Lets let Jesus be our guiding light to the truth and in turn help others to see it. Maybe it's possible to make the road less traveled a busier highway...

Have a great day...Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
