A Christian? Think Like One

"Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men" (Rom. 12:16 & 17).

"A penny for your thoughts......" Yesterday I considered love as a behavior in that it is exhibited in the deeds that we perform. Love is much broader though, therefore, it is more than just a behavior....It is a mind set. My point is that if we claim to be a Christian, we must think like one. That way of thinking ought to be in line with us desiring to be more Christ-like in our daily walk. The one who is maturing in Christ should not even think of doing certain things! The teaching is plain. It is Christ originated, and apostle driven. One who professes to be a Christian should not even contemplate repaying evil for evil. "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matt. 5:44). Peter, in thinking back of the observed behavior of Jesus wrote this; "When they hurled their insults at Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats" (1 Pet. 2:23). Is that the way we think? According to the precedent set by our Lord, it ought to be.

A mature Christian should have no place in his heart for envy or jealously. If there is envy in the heart, we may be able to weep with those who weep, but have difficulty in rejoicing with those who rejoice. The thought pattern of a Christian could not allow envy, which frets over the success of others to creep in. Even if we don't want what the other person has, our thoughts will be poisoned just because someone else is blessed.

Finally, There is the thought pattern of the humble. In the days that the Bible was written, humility was still a big problem. Being associated with the right people was a very important mind set. Jesus and Paul did not want us to measure our worth by our possessions or the pedigrees of others. "Do not set your minds on high things, but associate with the humble...Do not be wise in your own opinion" (V 16). To be real Christians, we need to think differently about other people than the world does, loving our neighbor as our self. We are called on to do no more than our Lord did....If we claim to be a Christian, we need to think like one...

Have a great day....A RAK or two would be appropriate.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
