The Big House

"Thomas said to Him, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, how can we know the way' " (John 14:5)?

I used the example of a GPS the other day, in speaking of finding my way through the fog on the bay. Jesus in this setting has just told His disciples about His Father's house. He talks in such beautifully descriptive terms about the house having many mansions. He said; "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be also" (Vs 2 & 3). He lets them, and us know that no GPS is needed! "And where I go you know, and the way you know" (V 4). This will not be the last time that Thomas will have some doubts and he has posed the question in today's verse. Jesus was "setting him up." He is prepared to deliver a wonderfully simple statement of who He is and what he can do! "I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except though me" (V 6).

In today's busy, go this way and that way world, we sometimes lose sight of the simplest things. The disciples, just like us at times were subject to doubts. The experiences that they knew pertained to what they could perceive with their senses. We find ourselves in the same boat as they were at times. Jesus wanted to reassure them and us that on the other side of death another world awaited. He urges us not to worry about the transition, or even the way. As many things that the disciple had seen while being with Jesus, an incomplete faith produced a question like Thomas'. In responding with His wonderful, "I am the way, the truth, the life" statement, Jesus reinforced all that he claimed to be. When Jesus came in the flesh, a new dimension of faith was added that had been previously unknown. In Jesus, we experienced, Immanuel, God with us! And now we have another great confidence. Jesus, God's own Son, has gone to prepare a dwelling place for His people. How good is that!

Have a great day.. Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
