Who Are You???

"When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked his disciples, 'Who do people say the Son of Man is?' " (Matt. 16: 13).

That catchy theme song known to millions who watch the popular crime show C.S I. was written by Pete Townshend in 1978. It's title is Who Are You. There are a lot of stories out there about how the song had it's genesis. One of them is that Pete Townshend, founding member of the rock group The Who, was struggling with his wild and crazy lifestyle. The one thing that kept him going was that no matter how bad that lifestyle had become, and how many people he had offended, there was someone who still loved him. Townshend said that the song was a prayer from a destitute man. The man is on the street, looking up into the sky and asking God the question, "Who are You?" There are "urban legends" galore out there, but however true this story is, it's a good start.

I guess there is a way that some of us might relate to this song too. None of us are truly worthy of that wonderful love shown to us by our amazing God. There are possibly times when we look at ourselves and are not satisfied with what we see. It is at that time that we can turn to God and realize the great depth of His love toward us. "You see, at just the right time, when we were powerless, Christ died for the ungodly....While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Rom. 5:6 & 8). The question that Jesus asks in today's verse reflects some very important issues. It is almost as if He is begging us to ask the question, Who Are You, and to answer it also. Notice in the following verses that the reply was: John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, one of the prophets. It here that Jesus asked Peter the question, point blank..."Who do you say I am?" (V15) Peter gets a 10 here..."You are the Christ, Son of the living God." (V 16)....Pete Townshend...... Meet Peter the apostle and receive your answer...He is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and He's the one who loves us.

Have a great beginning to your week...Start it with a RAK or 2... Love mark Phil. 4:11
