Two Paths

"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her and she will promote you; She will bring you honor when you embrace her" (Prov. 4:7-8).

The fourth chapter of Proverbs continues emphasizing the importance of wisdom, saying that it is the principal thing. This wisdom begins with a total respect for God and a submission to Him. Solomon, the probable author is always remembered for his wisdom, although he did some foolish things later in his life. It goes to show you that even those who understand wisdom are human just like the rest of us. An interesting aspect here, as he talks about what he got from his dad and mom. (Vs 3-6). David and Bathsheba must have left an indelible impression upon him.."When I was my father's son, tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, he also taught me....." (V 4)

In this chapter, two choices are described that one may follow...."The path of wisdom or the path of the wicked.."But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter into the perfect day....The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble" (Vs 18-19). I love the contrast here between the two. One leads us to a bright and sunny day and the other to darkness and gloom. It is sad to realize that there are those in the world who get some perverse pleasure from making others unhappy . To me this chapter tells us of the power that is available for Christians who walk in the light. As we seek wisdom, the word of God should become a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our way...God makes promises to those who choose to walk wisely in the way of goodness. We have the promised light to guide us and a clear sense of direction. Each day can bring a peace that passes understanding into our lives and an ever increasing hope for the future.

Have a wonderful day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
