Good Things In Threes

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matt. 6:33).

Have you heard the term that good things come in threes? Earl Weaver, the one time manager of the Baltimore Orioles, (when they were actually good) had his list of the three good things to be a successful baseball team...Pitching, defense and the three run home run. In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, He stressed 3 times that there are things that ought to be done first. I guess that even this devotional is the third of a 3 parter from this section of Matthew. First we explored that one could not serve two masters at the same time. Next that we ought not to worry as much as we do. It makes sense to me that if we are not to be concerned about the details of daily living because God is in control, that we ought to take today's verse to heart. Another set of threes...the right master.... the right choices.....the right priorities....It also should be noted that Jesus in this section told us not to worry three times...

Lets get back to the three things that ought to be done first. In Matt. 5:23-24, Jesus said that if a conflict arises between brethren, that we must first be reconciled to our brother before we bring our offerings. Next, in Matt. 6:31-34, He stresses that seeking God and his righteousness is first...Even before the getting of food, drink and clothing. And thirdly, in Matt. 7:5, Jesus sets some good rules for being able to make judgements. "First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." Clearly, the bar has been set for us. The promise in today's verse is that all these things will be added to you....This happens only when the priorities are correct...It is about seeking Him FIRST! Jesus said; We must work the works of Him who sent Me, as long as it is day; night is coming when no work can be done" (John 9:4). All that we do is done in out today's...Today is a good time to get all of our firsts done...

Have a wonderful day.... Let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
