Who's The Boss

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth' " (Matt. 28:18).

There was a sitcom that debuted in 1984 on ABC called "Who's The Boss." It was titled as such because of the dynamics of the show, with the main male (Tony Danza) being the housekeeper and female, (Judith Light) his boss, being the "breadwinner." The role reversals kind of went against the stereotypes of a typical family, hence the title. Today's verse leaves absolutely no doubt on who's the boss. The recent events had been both tumultuous and momentous. There was the betrayal, Last Supper, crucifixion and resurrection, and now Jesus would give the disciples His final words in form of instructions. What He gave to them next is what has been generally called, The Great Commission. In His flesh and blood earthly form, Jesus, though He had great powers, could not have all authority. As he looked to His ascension into heaven, He could now say with conviction that He now had it! God was the only one who could confer this and Jesus was the only one who could accept it. There is absolutely no doubt, Jesus, the anointed one, is the boss!

Jesus instructions as the boss are threefold. First, "go make disciples of all nations" (V19a). Second, "Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (V19b). Third, "Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (V20). The authority of Jesus is expressed to us by the Word. In it we teach, baptize, and teach some more. The instructions are clear, aren't they...When Jesus performed His first miracle at Cana in John 2, even before He told the servants what to do, Jesus' mom said, "Whatever He says to you, do it" (V5). We must have the same conviction that His mother had. Whatever he says, we are to do. In His Great Commission, Jesus is very complete...."all authority"...."All nations"..."all things"...."always"...We are supposed to do it all, after all, we know who the boss is....

Have a wonderful day...Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
