Running On Premium

"And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (Eph. 1:22-23).

Many years ago I owned a 1968 Camaro. It had a 350 cubic inch engine and only ran properly on premium gasoline. I pulled into a filling station on my way to work one morning, running on empty, only to find that they had no premium. I put in enough regular gas to get me to where I was going, but the trip was awful. It sounded like a ping pong match under the hood. The regular gasoline just didn't have enough octane in it to supply the power for that engine. God raised Jesus from the dead and "seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come" (V 20-21). Jesus now has the power! There are a lot of things that Jesus does with that power. He is the intercessor between us and God...His sacrifice has granted us grace, forgiveness and salvation...But today, lets contemplate His church. When He was still walking the earth, Jesus said; "I will build my church" (Matt 16:18). HE DID! Today's verse tells us that through God's divine wisdom, part of Jesus authority and power has been manifested in the church.

If we acknowledge that Jesus is the head of the church and that we are the body, it helps us greatly to see our relationship to Him. The human body does what the head tells it to, plain and simple. A well functioning mind would never tell the body to do something that it should not. The church (the body) is "the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (V23). In that Jesus is the head of the church, and the church is described as His body, there is clarification for us. "For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes it and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church" (Eph 5:29). The church is the manifestation of God's power and Jesus' love. The church is running on premium...

Have a great day... Make a difference.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
