The Right Stuff

"Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people" (Acts 6:8).

In the last job interview that I had many years ago, the principal of the school asked me this question at the very end; "Why should we hire you?" I thought for a moment and decided to be as candid as I could be. I replied; "The only reason that you should hire me is that I am the very best person that you have interviewed....If not, you will do a discredit to your school." I still believe that this answer was one of the reasons that they chose to hire me. I was the right man for the job. In today's verse we find the man Stephen. Most of us know the answer to the question of who the first Christian martyr recorded in the New Testament was...Of course it was Stephen. The apostles had chosen him and six others to be in charge of caring for the widows of the Hellenistic Jewish widows in Jerusalem. The Jews of Hellenistic heritage thought that their widows were being discriminated against, so the apostles addressed the situation immediately by choosing these seven men. After they prayed and laid their hands on them, they did their job. The book of Acts records the work of two of the seven, Stephen and Philip, who would become involved in more than just serving these widows. They were both evangelists, and it seems that Stephen was a special person. I would deem it an honor if someone said about me that I was full of grace and God's power.

Because of these qualities, Stephen was the right man! Because the Jews could not refute him, they got men to say that he blasphemed Moses and God. He was brought before the Sanhedrin, and gave a stirring speech which is recorded for us in the seventh chapter of the book of Acts. It would do us all good to read that speech. Simply put, Stephen was the right man, even up to his untimely death. In the book and movie, "The Right Stuff," the military of this country were searching for the right men to be our first astronauts. They had to have the all the right qualifications to be considered. Jesus is looking for people to be His servants, and he is looking straight at us. Do we have the right stuff? Are we the those who meet His qualifications? We need to be the right people for the job....

Have a great day....A RAK would be in order.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
