No One Else Like You

"I hope in the Lord to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare" (Phil. 2: 19-20).

I make no secret that the book of Philippians is my favorite book in the Bible. So many good things there....Earlier in chapter two, Paul says this; "Each of you should look not only on your own interests, but also to the interests of others" (V 4). This book is replete with great advice like this. Paul is so interested in the brethren at Philippi, that he sends to them his most trusted and beloved person, Timothy. Timothy makes his appearance to us in the sixteenth chapter of the book of Acts, and is either near Paul's heart or with him until his probable death in Rome. He joins Paul in the salutations of six of his letters, and when death was imminent, his last words recorded are to Timothy..."and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race...." (2 Tim. 4:6-7). Timothy was Paul's "beloved and faithful son in the Lord" (1 Cor.4:17). He seems to have started his ministry at a young age and has a kindness, gentleness and goodness about him. He doesn't seem to mind be overshadowed by the greatness of Paul. He was always willing to do what the apostle asked, and Paul asked a lot of him. Paul seems very at ease with putting Timothy in charge of situations that required a certain skill-set.

So why do I wax so glowingly about Timothy? The Bible is actually rather sketchy about his accomplishments, though two of Paul's letters are written directly to him. Our information about the extent of his works is unclear, and what we hear of him is limited to Luke's mention of him in the book of Acts and Paul's references in his letters. Today's verse is what really gets to me about Timothy. Paul hung out with the likes of Peter, James, Barnabas, Silas and many other giants of the first century church. But he wrote this about Timothy; "I have no one else like him".....If we are fortunate enough to have someone that feels this way about us, what a blessing it would be. Timothy must have been a really good person doing a lot of good things. Wouldn't it be great if we lived our Christian lives in such a way that the Lord looked at us this way? A lofty goal....

Have a great day...Do indeed let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
