My Way

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you" (James 4: 7-8).

In 1969, Frank Sinatra had a hit with a song entitled, My Way. The lyrics were written by Paul Anka and seem to deal with a person nearing the end of his life. He tries to maintain his integrity by saying that he is comfortable with how he dealt with the twists and turns of life. The recurring theme within the song is the comfort that he takes. He takes this comfort because...."I did it my way." Maybe, as independent thinkers, we feel that this is the way to run our lives...My way! God would beg to differ. Sin is often men and women looking to heaven and knowing how God wants us to live, and defiantly saying; "I won't....I will do things my way. Sins are always of this nature. They are mostly errors of pride, in wanting to do what we want to do, regardless of knowing God's way. Sins that breed lying, cheating, deceiving, gossiping, hatred, murder, thievery, adultery and fornication shout out....MY WAY! When pride rules, people suffer.

The apostle Peter writes this; "Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men" ( 1 Pet 2:13). Peter is overstating the obvious. To interact with people and be at peace, there must be a give and take....There are times to submit and times to obey. Life simply works better for Christians when there is sometimes submission without bitterness. The one thing that Peter surely does not want us to submit to is sin. There are times when submission is wrong. When it comes to right and wrong however, the submitting must be done to the right. When we submit to God's will, we are always in the right. "For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men" (V 15). The Lord is indeed the potter and we are the clay. The clay is always submissive to the hands of the potter. It's His way, not my way... Have a great day...A RAK would be in order... Love mark Phil. 4:11
