The Steadfast Love Of the Lord

"His lovingkindness is everlasting" (Psalm 136)..."Though I walk through the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against my foes, with your right hand you save me" (Psalm 138: 7).

A message that God repeats is that He will not forsake His people. In the time of the judges of the Old Testament, each time the people did evil, God saw to it that a judge would help them to get back on the right path. They would violate His laws, turn to other gods and sometimes refuse His Lordship. Still, when they turned back with a repentant heart, He heard and delivered them. It is little wonder that in Psalm 136 a refrain is repeated again and again; "His lovingkindness is everlasting." King David was constrained to write the words of our second verse of the day. The people's rebellion would often come with a bitter pill to swallow, because the blessings were promised only if they remained faithful. These lessons are why we read our Old Testaments. They are non-subtle reminders that our Lord wants to bless us also with His steadfast love, but wants our faithfulness.

The world was so bound by sin, that at just the right time, God sent His Son. (Gal. 4:4) The apostle Paul summarizes it this way; "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith---and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" (Eph. 2:8). After the coming of Christ, God's people became acquainted with grace, to an extent the Israelites did not know. As we learn lessons from the Israelites (1 Cor. 10:11) and put our complete trust in the Lord, we ought to devote all of our energy into serving Him in faith. If we fall short, we should turn to our gracious Lord in repentance. We never want to hurt the one that we love so completely. To those that love Him with all their hearts and souls there is an unlimited satisfaction. We can read or sing the words of the prophet Jeremiah with joy and confidence. "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 'the Lord is my portion says my soul, therefore I will hope in Him' " (Lam.3: 23-24).

Have a wonderful day. Jane and I will be getting away for a couple of days...I will write again on Monday...Make a difference.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
