Doxology 3

"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift" (2 Cor. 9: 15).

What is giving all about? Chapter nine of Second Corinthians is a watershed summation about giving. "For each man should give what he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (V 7). On whatever level that we give, whether into the collection plate on Sunday or in our daily walk, the Lord wants a cheerful heart to accompany the gift. He desires that we "will abound in every good work" (V 8). The apostle Paul explains a lot about our gifts and the good that they accomplish in this chapter. But more importantly, he tells why giving is an interwoven fiber of the Christian character. "This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God" (V 12). In the previous verse he writes that we will be made rich in every way so that our generosity will result in a thanksgiving to God.

God is praised through our giving. People will see that our service is done because of our deep Christian faith, and it is the gospel of Christ that constrains us to be generous as we share. If we give in the spirit that we ought to, we will be remembered in the prayers of those whom which we share. "And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you" (V 14). We are certainly all in need of those prayers. Finally, Paul ends this teaching about giving with a simple and awesome doxology, which is today's verse....The doxology sums up the reason for all Christian giving and service. "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift." God is the first giver! He selflessly gave Himself to us in the form of His Son....All Christian giving is our grateful response to Jesus, who though He was rich, became poor for us...Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift...

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
