Don't Forget the Green Stamps

"In Him we have redemption through the blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace" (Eph. 1:7).

Are you old enough to remember getting green stamps with your groceries at the store. Unfortunately, I am. I remember them going into one of the bags, and licking them and putting them into books at home. We often shopped on "double green stamps days." The funny thing is, I remember this better than the real reason that we collected them. So many books of stamps could be redeemed for prizes listed in a redemption book. I don't really recall the prizes we got...The stamps were a lure to get you into the store and even gasoline stations started giving them away. Redemption ought to be one of our lures into Christianity. Our redemption does not come cheaply...We give praise to our God who sent us His Son. We give praise to Jesus, because "in Him we have redemption through the blood....the forgiveness of sins."

In that our time on earth is relatively brief, the apostle Peter reminds us that we are judged impartially according to what we do here, and that we ought to conduct ourselves during our stay with reverence. Why? "Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold.......but with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish or spot" (1 Peter 1: 18-19). We wonder whether Peter, when he wrote these words, might have remembered John saying about Jesus; "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). The Law of Moses required an unblemished and unspotted lamb for sacrifice to God (Ex. 12:5). Jesus more than met those qualifications. It was His sacrifice that became our redemption. Jesus taught His disciples and us that he came to serve as a ransom for the lost of the world...."Just as the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many" (Matt. 20: 28). Our lives are all about the redemption....

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
