It's About The Will

"This is the confidence that we have before Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us" (1 John 5:14).

On the last page of my high school yearbook is the "Last Will and Testament" of our class. It consisted of traits that various members of our graduating class "left" to those remaining in school upon our graduation. It was silly, but said something about each of us who bequeathed something to someone else. It was sort of our "last say." As we have looked at prayer this week, we have examined: Jesus telling us how not to pray, His model prayer, Being asked, Praying in faith. I have one final note about prayer, and though this list doesn't cover all there is about it, it's a good beginning. Today's verse tells about the confidence that we ought to have as we pray, but with a caveat. John qualifies the confidence that we have about God hearing us with this; that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. HIS WILL! No one taught the importance of praying more than Jesus did. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed fervently. Three times as He talked to His Father about His fate, He intoned the will of His Father..."Yet not as I will, but as You will." (Matt. 26: 39).
Our view of life is like watching a parade from the sidewalk. We only get to see the part of the parade that is passing at any moment. God gets to view our parade from heaven, where He can see it all at once. In prayer, we must acknowledge our very limited view of circumstances and events, and allow God's will to be supreme. In this section of scripture, John speaks with confidence as he uses the word "know" several times. Read it yourself. We are to have the confidence that John urges as we come to know our position....That He hears us and will meet our needs. That being said, prayer is not a glorified wish list! When we understand that God knows our every need, there are things that we do not receive because we don't ask according to His will. I guess what we need to ask and answer is this; Will my prayers be marked by my will or His.....

Have a great day....Let you light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
