More Unique

"She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save the people from their sins"....."In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (Matt.1:21, John 1:1).

This will be my last devotion for a little while. I am going into the hospital for a hip replacement tomorrow and as soon I am able, I'll start up again...Jesus was said to be unique yesterday because of the name Immanuel and how it was prophesied by Isaiah. More about a name today. Mary and Joseph didn't have to worry about the naming of their special and unique son. The angel who appeared to Joseph in a dream gave him the name Jesus. Jesus was a rather common name at that time and is still often used in the Spanish culture today. It means, "Jehovah is salvation." In Matthew's account, there is a genealogy that traces Jesus through his mom. The interesting part is the inclusion of 4 woman. These 4 woman, Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Mary are exceptional enough to be worthy of their own study.

The apostle John in his gospel, doesn't even mention Jesus' birth, but goes right for unique. John identifies Jesus with the very beginning....With the Word....The Word that was God and brought all things into existence. The unity between Father and Son or between God and the Word goes unrivaled...How unique is that! John gives us more..."In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light that shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it" (Vs 4 & 5). This concept of Jesus being the Word is so unique, because the word became flesh and dwelt among us. Though Jesus does not physically dwell among us today, He exists in the Word. "The words that I speak to you are spirit and life" (V 6:63). So why is our Jesus so unique? He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow...He is Immanuel, God with us...He is Jesus, Jehovah is salvation....He is the Word that created and brought life and became flesh to save that life....He spoke the words of eternal life so that each of us might believe, obey and enjoy a place that He has prepared for us....We serve a very unique Savior....

I look forward to writing you soon...Have a great day and let His light shine in you....Love mark Phil. 4:11
