A State Of Supreme Happiness

"When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying" (Matt. 5: 1-2).

The term beatitude actually means "a state of supreme happiness." In His introduction the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus would describe the blessedness of a person who would become a citizen of the kingdom...Lets get a little closer look at how to achieve a state of supreme happiness. A citizen of the kingdom has to be poor in spirit. Not a prideful person but rather a humble one. Only when we understand our spiritual poverty can we become poor in spirit. A member of the kingdom is willing to mourn, for others and for himself. Only when we mourn over our dilemmas can comfort come. There is blessedness for the gentle or meek. Only in gentleness can we be pliable and aware of our spiritual needs. The citizen of the kingdom will hunger and thirst after righteousness. As we search for our spiritual needs, we will do so as a really hungry person searches out sustenance with persistence and longing.

A citizen must be merciful. We must posses a forgiving spirit that is acutely aware of our own need for forgiveness. A member has to be poor in heart. The heart must be without guile or hypocricy. It must be of a single purpose, honest and sincere. Just as our Savior was a person of peace, we must be peacemakers. Against a backdrop of turmoil, we need to pursue peace with both God and man, as we follow our Lord. Lastly, citizenship can be proven and tempered by a willingness to be persecuted for righteousness sake. Some of our finest moments will come as a result of proving our mettle in the bad times. These are the qualities of those who would experience the blessedness of the kingdom. As we examine the list, do we feel blessed?

Have a great day....Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
