Getting Rest and Making the Exchange

"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matt. 11: 28-30).

Have you ever gotten a gift from someone and exchanged it for something different? Why? Wrong size? Wrong color? Just wanted something different? In today's verses, three things are mentioned that might produce an unrest in man. First is the wrong yoke...Second is the wrong burden...Third is the wrong teaching. If a person is to achieve real rest and satisfaction, some exchanges need to be made. To find rest for one's soul we must rid ourselves of the heavy burden(s) that weigh us down. To do this one must exchange these for Christ's yoke, for Christ's burden, and for Christ's teaching.

"For my yoke is easy." Yokes were put on oxen for their restraining influence. They put the oxen in submission to the owner's will. They were used for the purpose of united and cooperative work. To find true rest, we must exchange yokes and be yoked to Jesus. "My burden is light." When we submit ourselves to the yoke of Christ, we exchange our heavy burden for His lighter one. We become true servants in His kingdom and we gain the desire to work for Him through His church. "Learn from me." We can find real rest as we take Jesus as our teacher. As He is gentle and humble in heart, by learning from Him, we can assume these qualities. Once we have learned of Christ, we then can learn from Him. This learning produces true rest for our souls. The term disciple means pupil or learner, so to be a disciple of Christ is to be a pupil of Christ. When we exchange a gift, we run the risk of insulting the person who gave it to us. In today's exchange there is never insult, only satisfaction and rest....

Have a great day... Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
