Conduct Grades

"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us" (2 Cor. 4:7).

I am old enough to remember that on our school report cards was a subject called conduct. We were graded A to F for our conduct just as were for math, reading and history. The jars of clay referenced in today's verse pertains to our bodies and the treasure is what we get when we obey Jesus. We have been given the Holy Spirit to aid us in making sure that we guard the treasure well. What we do in our bodies reflects how well that we regard the treasure. We are to possess our jars (some Bible versions call them vessels) in sanctification and honor. How we conduct ourselves is the only way that we have to show how highly we treasure that gift that has been bestowed upon us. The apostle Paul tells us that "it is God's will that you should be sanctified" (1 Thess. 4:4). We are supposed to conduct ourselves in a way that shows that we know God. Paul goes on to say; "For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who give you his Holy Spirit" (Vs 7-8).

When the Holy Spirit dwells in us, our jars should be as temples to us. Do you remember what Jesus did to the money-changers in the temple who were selling doves? He overturned their tables and said: "My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers" (Matt. 21: 13). If we allow it, the Holy Spirit will empower us to control our actions as we understand that our bodies belong to the Lord. Our jars will become temples and through our conduct people will know that we belong to God. I guess what goes around, comes around...When Jesus returns, the only grades that count will be our conduct grades.

Have a wonderful day... Let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
