Caterpillar To Butterfly

"There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light" (Matt. 17: 2).

It was always fun to teach metamorphosis to children. The change from egg, larvae, pupa to butterfly always seemed to capture their attention. Today's verse begins the story of the transfiguration of Jesus. In the original Greek, the word transfiguration is "metamorphoo", from which the word metamorphosis is derived. The same Greek word is used here: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom. 12: 2). When we become Christians, this is what is supposed to happen to us regarding our service to God. The metamorphosis that takes place in the animal kingdom is controlled by the genetics of the creature. This is not so with us. Note the passive words, "be transformed." We can only be transformed if we want to be and if we are willing to accept the help that is available. For our minds to be renewed, we must tap into God's power. It is only through that power and by His grace that we can change in form. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come" (2 Cor. 5:17).

In this transformation one must desire to; "set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Col 3:2). The very cool thing about this is that the transformation is ongoing....It never stops as we continue to grow. This process is continued by studying and meditating on God's Word. It continues as we keep in regular communication with God through prayer. Finally, the ongoing process requires that we keep our minds on spiritual worship, both in private and by frequent assembly with others. Worms and caterpillars are looked upon with negativity and often get squished. Ahhhhh...But butterflies? We love them...

Have a great day... Let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
