Are You Worth It?

"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge to live a life worthy of the calling you have received" (Eph. 4:1).

Ben Franklin had many great sayings that I am sure you have heard. One of the less famous was, "Don't pay too much for your whistle." He learned a lesson as a 7 year old boy when, enthralled by the sound of a whistle, paid another boy much more for a whistle that it was worth. When told of this by his siblings, he was chagrined by the knowledge that he could have gotten much more for his money..Thus...Don't pay too much for your whistle. The apostle Paul in today's verse reminds us about what some thing is worth. That something is us....The Christian. He urges us to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. To the church at Thessalonica he wrote; "For you know that we dealt with each of you the way a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory" (1 Thess. 2:11-12). When we take Jesus into our lives our value automatically goes up. We become worth more! A BMW and Yugo might both get you from point A the point B, but there are some obvious differences in value of the two cars?

So Paul reminds us that since we are now worth much more, to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Since we have not magically been transformed from a Yugo to a BMW, just how will this change be manifested in us and revealed to others. I love the Bible! We only have to read into the next two verses to find the answer. "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" (Vs 2-3). We have been called to follow Christ, and our life ought to reflect that fact. We have been called to be one in Christ and we must work hard to preserve that unity...This is a whistle that we just cannot give too much for.... Have a great start to your week...Start it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil. 4:11
