One More Time For Ones

"Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints" (Jude 3).

The seven "ones" of Eph. 4: 4-6 were designed and written for a purpose. "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" (Eph. 4: 3). They are all about unity within Christ's body, the church. Jesus' work on the cross created that one body. One Lord and one Spirit and one Father have always existed. According to 1 Peter 1:3, the one hope was affirmed by virtue of Christ's resurrection. Today's verse tells us that one faith has been revealed and entrusted to believers and that we need to earnestly contend for it. Jesus along with the apostles said that one baptism has been commanded for all who will believe and obey. It is the job of believers to preserve the unity as we "live a life worthy of our calling" (V 1). This worthy walk takes us to this; "I appeal to you brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought". (1 Cor. 1:10).

When we look at the fruit of the spirit listed in Gal. 5:22-23, we see nine lovely virtues that we are challenged to attain. God does not want us to pick and choose which of those virtues we want to aspire to. He wants us to engender all of those virtues. And so I believe it is with our unity. When we go to the food store and come to the fruit section, if there is a bin of oranges, we can pick out which ones that we want to buy. Not to mix fruit, but I think that is where the term "cherry pick" came from. I believe that these 7 ones are really just one. To preserve and maintain unity, all 7 must be a part of us. We cannot change the one baptism any more than the one Lord, one faith or one hope. God wants all of His children walking together...

Have a great day... Let you light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
