The Power of Knowledge

"His divine power has given everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness" (2 Peter 1:3).

I think that I have told you before that I enjoy watching the game show Jeopardy. It is fun to match wits with the contestants and see how well you fare. Those that do well on the show have accrued an amount of knowledge in certain areas, and are able to recall it. Their power to win money is based on that knowledge. Today's verse says something about the knowledge of our Lord and what it can do for us. It has given us everything we need for life and godliness. That sounds pretty important, so lets take a closer look at it..Within the context of this passage of scripture, life refers to our spirituality and well-being. Godliness is the way that we conduct ourselves as a result of our relationship and devotion to God. Through knowledge comes the power. The divine power from God that enables us to enjoy the full and rich life that our Lord has made available to us. The apostle Peter actually goes on to tell us more about the power that emanates from this knowledge.

"Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires" (V 4). This full and rich life includes the "great and precious promises." Promises made by Jesus when he said to "seek first the kingdom of God" in Matthew 6:33. We all know the rest of that promise. This full and rich life also includes being active participants "in the divine nature." We get to abide on a higher plane...A spiritual one. Finally, we have a way to "escape the corruption of the world caused by evil desires." As we strive in this knowledge, we have help in escaping the corruption caused by evils that surround us. When our desires gravitate toward the Lord and the divine nature, the evil desires can be overcome. Everything that pertains to true life and godliness comes through the power of our knowledge of Jesus Christ. The power that we can depend upon.

Have a wonderful day... Let your light shine for HIM.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
