Now About The Light

"And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. God saw that the light was good" (Gen. 1:3-4).

When Jesus said to us there we were to be the light of the world, He really meant it. Before we get carried away with our luminescence, understand that we are more like the moon than the sun. "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but have the light of life" (John 8:12). As followers of Jesus we are actually luminaries, reflecting the one true light. "For God who said, 'let light shine out of darkness,' made His light to shine on our hearts to give us the light of the glory of God in the face of Christ" (2 Cor. 4:6). Being the light of the world comes with responsibilities. Jesus uses two other metaphors to help us understand our role. "Nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house" (Matt 5:15). Our light is to be visible! It is to be seen by all. It is the love that we show toward one another as a result of that light that allows others to see that we are disciples of Jesus.

With our lights being on a lamp stand instead of under a bushel, we should be even more than visible. As a lighthouse that used to guide ships of old, our lights must radiate....LET YOUR LIGHTS SHINE BEFORE MEN! When we dedicate ourselves to the service of the Lord, it is a proof that His light is in us. People will praise God in knowing that our service originates in Him. This is what it means to let our light shine before men. The African American soldiers, known as Buffalo Soldiers of World War Two, had this motto etched into their unit's insignia; "Deeds Not Words." Our deeds will be the true reflection of us being the light of the world. We indeed praise our Lord by being this light, and He is worthy of the praise. Its a big responsibility to be the light of the world....Are we up to it?

Have a great day...Let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
