Trivial Pursuits - A Search For Meaning In Life

"And if the Spirit of him who raised Christ from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you" (Rom. 8:11).

In a previous devotional, I quoted Johnny Lee who wrote the lyrics to the song "Lookin' For Love." The main theme of the catchy country tune was that He was "lookin' for love in all the wrong places." A problem for humans today is that they are looking for meaning in their lives, but in the wrong places. This quote is attributed to the writer Ernest Hemingway; "I live in a vacuum that is as lonely as a radio tube when the batteries are dead and there is no current to plug into." If you are a very young person, you may have to ask what a radio tube is...The author of Ecclesiastes puts his powers of wisdom to work to examine the human experience and make an assessment of the human situation. From the depths of his human experience and observation he attempts to ascertain what is "good" for man. After all is said and done the writer concludes that to live meaningful, purposeful and joyful lives, God must be at the center. We can't find true meaning in life if we are looking in the wrong places. We can't find true meaning in life if we unable to plug into the real power source.

We can also not wait for meaning in life to just "happen" to us. God provides meaning and purpose to our lives when we accept Jesus as our Savior. His Spirit then dwells in us and it will not allow other things like work control us...It won't even allow us to really think that we can control our own lives without Him...His Word will provide a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path. We will never feel like we are in a vacuum because our batteries will never run low...We know that we will find meaning and purpose because we will look in the right places.

Have a great beginning to your week...Start it with a RAK.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
