Being Holy

"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written, 'Be holy, because I am holy' " (1 Pet. 1:15-16).

Has the term holy become an outdated word? We just don't use it much anymore when referring to human behavior do we? The Book of First Peter is one filled with exhortations and encouragements. In today's verses its about being holy. The preceding verse says; "As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance." I think that Peter is saying to us, that as Christians we have the opportunity to be holy. To Philip in the Gospel of John, Jesus said; "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father" The apostle Paul in 1 Cor. 11:1 tells us to imitate him, as he imitates Jesus. So in today's verses we are called to be holy..."Be holy, because I am holy." We, like Jesus and Paul can be like the Father when we make being holy a priority in our lives. In 1918, W.D. Longstaff wrote the words to the hymn, Take Time to be Holy. Although the title implies that we should take time in our lives to be holy, I would submit that being holy actually takes time....It is a process. Paul writes this in his second letter to the Corinthians; "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit" (3:18) Being holy ought to be a goal because it comes from the Lord and makes us more like Him. I will share more about holiness with you tomorrow...

Have a great beginning to your week....Start it with a RAK.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
