From Secret To Public

"Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus....He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who had earlier visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about 75 pounds" (John 19: 38-39)

On the night that Jesus was betrayed and arrested, many of His closest followers left Him. "Then everyone deserted Him and fled" (Mark 14:50). After Jesus' death, who would step up to the plate and provide for His burial? Surprise of surprises!!! Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin and our old friend Nicodemus. This is the same Nicodemus that visited Jesus by night much earlier in His ministry, that I talked about in my previous devotional. Taking a body for burial and bringing 75 pounds of spices is not a private thing. I am not sure when Nicodemus' heart was changed, but obviously it was. The change had come from the inside, provoking him to do a very public deed for our Lord. What he did was a bold thing that only a true disciple would do. When we are convinced that Jesus is indeed the Son of God and take Him into our lives, we just cannot be secret disciples. The Spirit will compel us to do good things for others because our hearts have been changed. These are the words of the apostle Paul to Timothy; "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord" (2 Tim. 1:7-8). Our faith must be visible. Even if we have trouble expressing the words, we can testify through our deeds. Our faith must be willing to participate. Rather than secrecy driving out our faith, our faith must drive out the secrecy. Lets leave the "secret agent" stuff to the spies, and have the willingness to be witnesses for the Lord. Jesus witnessed for God and His apostles witnessed for Him..It is why we are saved today..Lets take Jesus with us wherever we go....

Have a great day....Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
