Needs Only Jesus Can Meet

"Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious" (Acts 17: 22).

What an interesting thing for the apostle Paul to say. The citizens of Athens had a God for everything. Whether it was to cover anything they might have missed, or an attempt to fill in an empty spot, they even had an alter with the inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Paul picked up on this and said; "Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you" (V 23). Paul wanted to fill in the empty place in their lives. In searching for a more satisfying life, only Jesus is the answer. "I have come that they may have life; and have it to the full" (John 10:10). Today, many people are quite similar to the Athenians. Though they were a religious people, there was a void in their lives. They tried to fill it with hedonism, materialism and even education. When that failed, they even turned to some form of mysticism. Only Jesus can fill the unfulfilled needs of people! He said; "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom to the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor" (Lk. 4: 18-21). Talk about meeting all of our needs! He came to preach the gospel to those lacking in spiritual and material resources (the poor). He came to give freedom to prisoners (all are in bondage). He came to bring sight to the blind (the spiritually blind). He came to release the oppressed (those who are broken). Finally, he came to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor (God love people). Meditating on Luke 4:18-21 would be a good thing to do...We are those that need Jesus to fill our needs...

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine for HIM.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
