Dressing For The Occasion

"Therefore brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10).

There is an old quotation out there that says; "the clothes make the man." (Mark Twain added on to it...) I'm not sure of its complete validity, but there are certain clothes that should be worn on certain occasions. One should dress appropriately for a job interview. Proper beach attire is good when at the beach, especially if you are going into the water. Since we leave near the ocean, there are often signs in eating establishments that read; "No shoes, no service." In our Wednesday night Bible class, we studied the parable of the "Marriage of the King's Son and the Wedding Garment." (Matt. 22: 1-14) There is some discussion as to whether these are one or two parables, since they are in close sequence. I am interested this morning in the guest without the proper wedding clothes. Throughout the parables, many did not gain entry into the kingdom for various reasons. Farms, businesses and personal matters were more important to some. Outright rejection due to misplaced values for others. "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man who was not wearing wedding clothes...'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless." (Matt. 22: 11-12) The man was cast out of the feast and into the darkness of night with the admonition, "For many are invited, but few are chosen" (V 14). The man was rejected because he was improperly clothed! "Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another" (1 Pet. 5:5). "Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear...Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints" (Rev. 19: 8). Sharing in the kingdom of heaven requires the proper attire...One must be clothed with humility and arrayed in righteousness. We must dress for the occasion....

Have a wonderful day...Reflect Jesus with all humility... Love mark Phil. 4:1
