The Heart Of The Issue

"The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart" (Ps. 15: 8).

The "walk through heart" at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia is the largest of its kind in the country. It was built in 1954 and was very impressive to a wide-eyed twelve year old in 1956. It is two stories high and to scale would fit into a 220 foot man. It has undergone many changes since then, and yes, it is an interactive exhibit today. When we talk about the heart in an anatomical sense, this one is often in the back of my mind. Most of the time however, when the Bible talks about the heart, it is speaking about the part of us that controls our decision making. ie; "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6: 21). Our heart is the source of our emotions and feelings. "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song" (Ps. 28: 7). The heart is also the source of anguish and pain as the apostle Paul writes; "For I wrote to you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears" (2 Cor. 2: 4). The heart is the source of love as Jesus wants us to love God with all of our hearts...The heart is the source of our commitment to things and the wellspring of our thinking and discernment. It is no wonder that King Solomon asked for the ability to have a discerning heart. Our heart is the center of our speaking and actions..."But things that come out of the mouth come from the heart" (Matt. 15: 18). In the next verse, Jesus tells of the evil things that come from the heart. Finally, the heart is the actual essence of who we are. It is no wonder that the writer of the Book of Proverbs says this: "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life" (4: 23). With all this said, lets make sure that we guard our hearts....More tomorrow....

Have a great day...I we don't make a difference, who will? Love mark Phil. 4:11
