What Jesus Wants To Give Me

"Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28).

It is fun to get gifts on some special occasion, isn't it. Perhaps its being remembered on Father's Day. (or Mothers) According to today's verse, Jesus wants to give something to everyone who listens to His call. The authority of Jesus gives us confidence that the call is a real one. The words ring with strength and truth because of His divinity and they have a relevance in our lives. He invites all who have some burden in their life that is weighing them down to come...He invites those that are in some kind of rut to come..He invites those who might have some divided loyalties or that are concerned about eternity to come...And then comes the gift...Not a Father or Mother's day gift, but truly the gift that really keeps on giving! "And I will give you rest." This rest is Jesus' gift to us. It is not a gift that we have earned because we are a mother or a father. It is not a gift that is given to celebrate the day of our birth..This gift does not come because of our biology, but from our relationship to Him...We have heard the call, "come unto me" and heeded. The gift is a daily refreshment of our spirits, given to us only because Jesus can. In his classic work, "My Utmost For His Highest," Oswald Chambers wrote this: "Whenever anything begins to disintegrate your relationship with Christ, turn to Him at once and ask Him to establish rest." Tomorrow I will write about how to maintain this gift. If you read the next two verses, you will probably figure it out...

Have a great day...Let His light shine in you... Love mark Phil. 4:11
