The Gift With A Request

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matt 22: 29-30).

Yesterday in verse 28 I wrote about the gift that Jesus wants to give us...The gift of true rest. It is a gift offered to all who will heed his call of come unto me. I researched the term, "the gift that keeps on giving," and found it to have its roots with the Victor Talking Machines (playing records) of the 1920s. If this is true, it really makes sense, doesn't it? There is a catch however. In order for the gift to keep on giving, a record must be played again and again. The rest of Jesus is one that keeps on giving, but Jesus makes a request to us that will allow it to do so...."Take my yoke upon you and learn from me." We learn by placing ourselves on the other side of the yoke in following Jesus. If we want the gift to be a constant one, we must place ourselves under that yoke. I have seen pictures of oxen under a yoke and it doesn't look to comfortable. But Jesus says; "For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." It would seem to me that an easy yoke would be one that would not chaff us or cause irritation and undue stress. I believe that the yoke of Jesus works this way because it fits us perfectly. Jesus wore that same yoke in being in submission to the will of His Father. He desires that we also come under that yoke and be in submission to Him. The yoke becomes easy when we accept to wear it as a guide for life. Like hearing the music from the record, we must get up every day and put on the yoke. We put it on with joy as we seek his rest and allow the Lord to work in us. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, and have been called according to His purpose." (Rom. 8:28). He promises that the yoke will be easy and His burden light. For I am gentle and humble in heart...and you will find rest for your souls...The gift...The request...It truly keeps on giving...

Have a great day.... Make a difference.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
