Compassion In The Neighborhood

"It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?..."

Fred M. Rodgers 1967

I couldn't resist bringing Mr. Rodgers back into the neighborhood...Mr. Rodgers always tried to make the children in the neighborhood seem special. There's supposed to be compassion in the neighborhood. Second to loving God, loving your neighbor is to be a part of our make-up. "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matt. 22:35, Mk. 12:28, Lk. 10:27, Lev. 19:18). The compassion shown by the Samaritan man in the famous parable shows us the way. The neighborhood extends way beyond just where we live. After all, the priest and Levite were actually very close to their own geographic neighborhood, but the Samaritan man was not...This makes the definition of neighbor way beyond what one might think..It is unlimited... Compassion has no restrictions or formulas and it knows no boundaries. It takes us out of our comfort zones into neighborhoods that might be unfamiliar. There are times that it might be costly to us and calls for action on our part. Compassion meets people where they are and then meets their needs! "But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have' " (Lk. 10: 33-35). Welcome to the neighborhood....The neighborhood of compassion.... "So, lets make the most of this beautiful day..Since we're together we might as well say: Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Won't you be my neighbor? Won't you please. Won't you please? Please won't you be my neighbor?"

Have a great day...Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
