Practical Purposes

"For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but those who obey the law who will be declared righteous" (Rom. 2:13).

Just to be on the safe side, I looked up the word practical. It had a multiplicity of definitions. One of them that caught my eye dealt with that which was actually used and put into service (practice), rather than that which was theoretical. In very simple terms, God's laws are practical....They serve practical purposes. Just how do they do that you ask? For those of us who are parents, early on in our children's lives we tried to teach them right from wrong. God's laws are practical in that they teach us right from wrong. Of course, as today's verse from the book of Romans states, the laws must be obeyed to serve that purpose. Traffic laws serve us in attempting to keep us more safe. They are only relevant for that purpose however if they are obeyed. Most accidents stem from disobeying one of those laws. God wants us to love His laws. They have the ability to teach us internal restraint for daily living. "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts" (Deut. 6:6). His laws can only serve our practical needs if they become a part of the fiber of our lives....."Upon our hearts".... Finally, the Ten Commandments, as a part of the old law given to the children of Israel were to serve a very practical purpose. "So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith" (Gal. 3: 23). God's laws reveal our need for Jesus Christ! The practicality is found in it's teachings about doing good rather than evil. When God's laws are written on our hearts, we will make the choice of doing good...It doesn't get anymore practical than that...

Have a great start to your week...Begin it with a RAK.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
