The Risk/Reward Factor

"When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, 'Put into the deep water, and let down the nets for a catch' " (Lk. 5:4).

Any of you who have done some fishing know the scenario here. You have been fishing all over for quite a while with no success. Someone in the boat, just on a whim says, "lets try over there." Now he may know something or he's just suggesting a new place, so its up to you whether or not to move. Peter, James and John had been net fishing all night long and had caught nothing. As far as they knew Jesus was not a fisherman, and though Peter was skeptical, he responded; "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will lay down the nets." (V 5). Simply put, Peter obeyed the Lord because Jesus asked him to. "Go away from me Lord; for I am a sinful man" (V 8). Peter recognized the sin in his life and Jesus was the Lord. "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men" (V 10). Jesus laid out His plans for them and now the decision was their's...."So they pulled up their boats up on the shore, left everything and followed Him" (V 11). Peter left everything to follow Jesus! Talk about going into uncharted waters.... These men were in for a drastic change in their lives. Jesus calls for us to continually follow Him too. Just as these fishermen were about to make a radical life-change, when we answer Jesus' call, the same is true for us. Jesus calls us to make this radical commitment. It is a commitment that will revolutionize our lives forever. Taking up our cross daily means to submit our will to Him. It is not a one time deal, but a life long commitment that we take on. It is often not easy to follow Jesus, but all the blessings of life and heaven await those who are willing to pay the price. My mom would still call it quite a bargain...

Have a wonderful day....Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
