A Gift That We All Want

"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you heard me speak about" (Acts 2:4).

Most of us have received gifts that we would rather forget about. Although the thought may have been good, that tie or set of handkerchiefs just may have left us wanting more. Oh, we were polite and accepted them with cheer, but........I would like to talk about a gift that we all want! Today's verse is an instruction by Jesus to His disciples after His resurrection. He told them to wait in Jerusalem for this gift. "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38). This gift fulfills God's promise and was to be poured out on all who obeyed. This wonderful gift is something that we all want. It is a gift that conquers death, as it gives us a hope of eternal life. This gift is why we repent and are baptized. This wonderful gift brings us a fantastic fellowship. A fellowship with the Lord and with those who have followed the same gospel commands. Lastly, this gift helps us to live much better lives. It shows in our daily living and constrains us to bear fruit. "But the fruit of the Spirit is joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" (Gal. 5:22). Later in the chapter, the apostle Paul writes; "Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit" (V 25). The nineteenth century theologian, Charles Finney said; "Power from on high is the supreme need of today." These are wonderfully true words ring clearly to us today. And the great thing is that power from on high is given to us...It is given to us as a gift....A gift that we all want...

Have a great day...Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
