Knowing The Power

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

Man has always searched for new sources of power. Early towns were built by rivers or streams to harness the power of the moving water. Today we have electrical power plants as that source of power, although to not be as dependent on fossil fuels we are going back to the natural sources such as wind, sun and moving water. The word power is a multi-faceted one. We look at the physical power of great machines and are amazed at what they can do, but spiritual power is much more amazing..The words in today's verse are Jesus' last to His disciples, who we will now call apostles. Jesus wanted His saving message spread and He promised them a spiritual power to do it..Well how about us! What has to happen to us to know this power? "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38). The apostle Peter utters these words and in essence he is saying that the days of mere lip-service are over....This is the biblical view and it must be adhered to. A commitment must be made so that we can personally encounter the Holy Spirit and be empowered. The Spirit empowers us in life, growth, prayer and in witness. It is the power necessary for us to bear the spiritual fruits (Gal. 5:22) that we may live Godly lives. We can't stop and take ease though...We need to live our lives as Spirit-filled people. Humans are turning to renewable resources like wind, sun, moving water and bio-fuels for power because they are not "used up" and then gone. The Holy Spirit is the renewable resource of our life! It is the renewed presence in our life and can allow us to do things that we would have never imagined..Lets tap into it and be renewed every day...

Have a great day...Let His Light shine in you (its renewable)... Love mark Phil. 4:11
