Goods Becoming Gods

"Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And to what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them" (Ecc.5:10-11).

We certainly live in a materialistic world. It would seem that materialism has been a problem since man has roamed the earth. Sadly, many people have an insatiable hunger for things that they do not have. "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor" (Ex.20:17). Jesus knew that materialism was a huge stumbling block for people and some of His most poignant words attempted to address the issue. I could rattle off many scriptures that you are certainly familiar with that deal with this important problem. Today I would like to talk a bit about the problem and tomorrow about the antidote....Some of the results of materialism are: "As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them" .....frustration...."The sleep of a laborer is sweet, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep" (Eccl.5:12).....anxiety....."Do not wear yourself out to get rich" (Prov.23:4)....over-commitment...."What causes quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you?" (James 4:1)....lawsuits..... "Whoever loves money never has enough money; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income"......dissatisfaction....It would certainly seem that an unhealthy preoccupation with material goods can cause many problems. Maybe I'm preaching to the choir, because Christians should not have any of these problems, but for what it's worth, I would like to deal with the cure for these ills tomorrow. Maybe you might just sneak a peek at Phil. 4:11-12....

Have a great day...Do good because it is just right.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
