At The Buffet

"Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD' " (Acts 17:22-23).

It is well known around my circle of friends that I do not like to eat at buffets. The reasons might seem strange to others but it is a part of my eclectic eating code. When eating out, I prefer to think that the chef prepared the food I am about to eat just for me. We usually go out to a place with the type of food we want in mind, ie: Mexican...Seafood....Italian. I just don't like being bombarded with a hundred different items...So much for my weird reasoning. I view the Athenians who are being spoken to in today's verse as religious buffet lovers. The apostle Paul was distressed to see that the city of Athens was full of idols. It seems that these people had many Gods. Though modern people might not know it, on some levels they are buffet eaters when it come to religion. They might disregard Biblical truth and instead adopt the values of the culture they are in. Some people are looking for a self-centered religion, perhaps tailored to personal feelings rather than the reality of God's Word. This allows them to focus on matters that are less important and be more focused on the fluff rather than the substance. There are some that want an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of feeling about their worship. While it's certainly true that our God wants all to come to Him, He does have standards, and obedience to His will is a big one. Our religion must be between us and the chef. God has revealed His truth just for me to experience. Though many might believe as I do, there is still that personal touch that makes me feel special. Paul addressed these religious buffet eaters here in the seventeenth chapter of the Book of Acts....More about this tomorrow....

Have a great day....If you have not already done so, a RAK would be in order as you begin your week....Love mark Phil.4:11
