Bookem' Dano

"Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for thirty one years....Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of Lord that had been given through Moses....When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his robes" (2 Chron.34:1, 14, 19).

In the first half of the twentieth century, religious revivals were commonplace. Most churches had one or two a year where some guest minister would come to town and preach for a week. The truth is that all of us need a personal revival from time to time. Not necessarily of the large tent variety, but a "getting back to basics" personal one. Josiah did not come from very good stock. His grandfather Manasseh and father Amon were very bad kings. "Amon was twenty two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years. He did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done" (33:21-22). But some wonderful things happened with Josiah as the king. He made some much needed reforms. He tore down the idols of Baal and had the temple restored...But then a wonderful thing took place as we read in today's verse. "Hilkiah, the priest found the Book of the Law of the Lord that had been given through Moses." Josiah then preceded to make the greatest reforms of his reign. He brought the Law back to the people..."Great is the Lord's anger that is poured out on us because our father's have not kept the word of the LORD; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written in this book" (34:21). Josiah saw the thing that needed to be done to save his people. He knew that they needed to keep the commands of the Law and serve the Lord. Now, is this an isolated event that happened about 640 BC, or does it have some significance to us? The prophet Hosea uttered these famous words: "My people are destroyed from their lack of knowledge" (4:6). I would like to make some application of this Old Testament story in our lives today. I am sure that most of you know where I am going, but stick around for tomorrow's devotional about the necessity for personal biblical revival...

Have a great day....Through Him, we can make a difference.... Love mark Phil.4:11
